Learning Control Cycles for Area Coverage with Cyclic Genetic Algorithms
نویسنده
چکیده
Area coverage is a type of path planning that is concerned with finding a pattern of movement that will result in coverage of all parts of an area. Most area coverage planning algorithms assume that the robot can maintain a track over the ground that will result in full coverage in obstacle free areas. This is easily done if the robot can be precisely controlled or has sufficient sensor capability to know the relationship of its current track to its previous one, but simple legged robots usually lack both of these attributes. A means of learning the optimal cycle of turns and straights to produce a full coverage track could greatly improve efficiency. In addition, a system of learning could compensate for the lack of calibration in robot turning systems. In this paper, we introduce a method for learning turn cycles that will produce the tracks required for area coverage. The learning is done using a cyclic genetic algorithm (a form of evolutionary computation designed to learn cycles of behavior). Tests of the simulated robot’s dead reckoning capabilities with the learned cycles show that using CGAs is an effective means of learning for

Evolving cyclic control for a hexapod robot performing area coverage
For a robot to search an entire area, it must follow a path that allows the range of its sensors to cover all parts of the area. This problem is a subset of path planning called area coverage. Most work done in this type of path planning has concentrated on ways of dividing the area up to avoid obstacles while covering the area. This is an important step in the process, but often takes for gran...
متن کاملSpatiotemporal Estimation of PM2.5 Concentration Using Remotely Sensed Data, Machine Learning, and Optimization Algorithms
PM 2.5 (particles <2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter) can be measured by ground station data in urban areas, but the number of these stations and their geographical coverage is limited. Therefore, these data are not adequate for calculating concentrations of Pm2.5 over a large urban area. This study aims to use Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) satellite images and meteorological data from 2014 to 2017 ...
متن کاملCoverage Improvement In Wireless Sensor Networks Based On Fuzzy-Logic And Genetic Algorithm
Wireless sensor networks have been widely considered as one of the most important 21th century technologies and are used in so many applications such as environmental monitoring, security and surveillance. Wireless sensor networks are used when it is not possible or convenient to supply signaling or power supply wires to a wireless sensor node. The wireless sensor node must be battery powered.C...
متن کاملA knowledge-based NSGA-II approach for scheduling in virtual manufacturing cells
This paper considers the job scheduling problem in virtual manufacturing cells (VMCs) with the goal of minimizing two objectives namely, makespan and total travelling distance. To solve this problem two algorithms are proposed: traditional non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) and knowledge-based non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (KBNSGA-II). The difference between these algor...
متن کاملLearning Area Coverage Using The Co-evolution Of Model Parameters
The type of search where a robot’s track takes it on a path where its sensors can detect all mines located in the area is referred to as area coverage. Planning this track is an issue in robotics and is complicated when the robot is legged due to the reduced precision of its movements. Cyclic genetic algorithms have been used as a method for learning the cycle of turns and straights required fo...
